The brief history of "Shoghakn"
The diamond industry was established in Armenia in 1971 by the First Secretary of Central Committee of Communist Party Anton Kochinyan with the help of Ashot Harutyunyan, the former General director of "Sapphire" Production Company located in Nor Hachin.
The first lot of Armenian brilliants was produced in March 1971 at the "Sapphire" Production Company factory.
In June 1976, "Crystal" diamond factory was put into operation in Nor Hachin.
Later on, "Crystal" was renamed first into the "Machine-tool", and then into "Shoghakn".
Starting from 1992, the "Shoghakn" factory has being applied the so-called "Fantasy" method of cutting diamonds. For the first time in Armenia diamonds called "Marquise", "Oval", "Pear", as well as "Emerald", "Baget" and different kinds of triangles were manufactured.
In September 1992, "Shoghakn" separated from "Sapphire" Production Company and became an independent factory specializing only on diamonds cutting.
In the following years of depression and recession inherent to transition in the Republic of Armenia, diamond processing industry also faced a decline. It lasted untill July 2000 when the factory became a semi ruined, disorganized enterprise.
In July 2000, "Shoghakn" factory was incorporated while being privatized by Lev Levaev - the citizen of Israel and the owner of Israeli large diamond processing "L.L.D. Diamonds" Ltd.
